Navy Blue and White "Breton" Stripes Ceramic Cup

Regular price $35

A hand-painted navy blue and white stripe ceramic cup.

During the Medieval era, only prisoners, criminals, clowns, hangmen, and the likes, were seen wearing stripes. By the end of the 19th century, Queen Victoria redefined the pattern by dressing her son in a striped sailor suit, which in turn led to the rise in striped navy blue and white bathing suits and Coco Chanel’s “sailor chic” Breton stripe pattern in 1917.

  • Made of wheel-thrown white stoneware clay with hand-painted blue stripes, coated in a glossy clear glaze
  • Measures approx. 4 in. tall x 3.75 in. wide
  • Food safe and dishwasher safe, hand-wash recommended
  • Handmade in Brooklyn, NY
